[Major news from THE SOUNDS!!!]
Hey everyone! Things are REALLY exciting right now for us!!
ANGELS AND AIRWAVES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
We will be touring North America this November with Angels and Airwaves!!! We are also planning a run of headline dates right before and after the AVA tour, so we are going to try and come to all of you this fall!! Dates to be posted shortly!
AVA OMG. AND THE SOUNDS. MY EMO HEART.
friends, foes, readers, and peeps in general,
on september 17th, i will be walking @ the UCLA—i feel like a traitor already—campus for light the night (a fundraiser for the leukemia & lymphoma society). yes, it’s true; i will actually be doing something for the good of humanity (difficult to fathom, i know). apparently, lawyers-in-training are allowed one non-evil act per year.
anyhow, all joking aside, i am asking for your help in reaching my goal of raising $100 (or more!). if you’re interested in donating to help me reach/surpass my goal and make a difference, you can make a secure online donation at: http://www.active.com/donate/ltnLosAn/1879_mshiokura. every little bit counts, i swear.
hearts and unicorns, thanks and loves,
mao
ps. why didn’t anyone tell me to listen to the new (not really) muse album earlier?! I’VE BEEN MISSING OUT.
when he said it was going to be f-in amazing, he didn't lie.
[felix rodriguez - the sounds - wiltern - august 19, 2006]
i promise i'll work on some next weekend. PROMISE.
ps. four reasons why october will be amazing. 1) bamboozle left (i maintain that pomona does NOT count as an "la" date for jm); 2) my chemical romance - the black parade; 3) cobra starship - while the city sleeps.. we rule the streets; 4) the killers - sam's town. holla.
my chemical romance. the black parade (their new album out oct 24th). video interview. holy.. watch it here. now.
someone needs to get this on youtube asap. is it crapping out for everyone too, in the last 2 minutes?
With each new day it becomes more apparent to me that everything and everyone in this world is connected in some beautiful and inexplicable way, and the more I accept that, the more my world seems to come together... I feel cradled by this universe and the immense love that comes from it.
-andrew mcmahon
as some of you may know, i will be starting law school in less than 8 hrs today. this means that i will probably be photo-ing a lot less, and blogging a lot less. hopefully, AIMing/myspacing a lot less, but i make no guarantees. my priority is going to be school now (i know, it really should be shows > everything else in life. i wish :) ). EMO4LYFE.
new friends who have changed my life in more ways they will ever know (thanks jm), old friends who have stuck by me during my "slacker" period.. thank you. i am the person i am today because of you guys, and i will always be thankful. i’ve had the most amazing year off this past year, and i know that while i’ll never be able to go back to those glory days.. i will hold on to those memories when life is sucking—which i hear happens quite often for 1-Ls.
now, remind me not to become a bitter, horrible, mean lawyer-type and keep me in check sometimes. i will do my best to retain my sense of humor.
i love you all.
xoxo
2. gym class heroes, i missed part of their set.. but the best was when patrick stump came out to sing cupid's chokehold, the scene kids are freaking out, and irene texts me "who is that guy from?"
3. i tried not to look too excited during jack's, but who am i kidding? someone from buzznet snapped a photo of me while i was geeking out.
4. apparently i looked like a scene kid and not some official photog b/c i must've been asked at least 5 times if i had a media pass.
6. cobrastarship. the snakes song killed me. i died.

and then my camera decided that it was in love with william beckett.
7. fall out boy. that was ridiculous. i could feel the venue floor shaking and the kids going absolutely nuts. NUTS. some dudes who were geeking out to fall out boy later tried to hit on me. haha sorry guys. and i'm sure everyone would love to argue that they suck and that they sold out and pete wentz is.. blah blah. but you know what, they put on an amazing show. they love their fans. they love playing for them. i sang along to every word i knew.
(bad picture, but how happy does he look? he has the best smile.)
what's up william? c u next tuesday wednesday.
all photos from the misshapes (purevolume warped afterparty).
two years ago, when we were touring europe and i was at my wits end, thinking that the band was going to break up, thinking that it was all over and that brian and I had had enough of each other for good, i found a bright spot in listening to avril lavigne's new record and deciding to make a fake video out of the song "together". you've seen the results (if you haven't: www.dresdendolls.com/music/karaoke/index.htm). it was truly cathartic. i don't think anyone really believes me when i say that. having a project like that to throw myself into saved me. the song, with all it's adolescent cheese and overproduction, gave me a wormhole back to 15-year-old self, the lonely confused one eating her lunch in the piano practice room.[italics added]
a week before the tour ended, we got the call in seattle that ryan's [of panic! at the disco] dad had suddenly died. his only close family. he was an only child and his mom was out of the picture. our hearts sank, we sat in the bus and all looked at each other at a loss for words.
they canceled two shows. we almost didn't want to get the call that the shows were on, because we assumed that that would mean that ryan had been talked into coming back on tour when he should be at home, dealing. dealing with who, with what? ryan came back on tour after three days off, we finished up in california. the whole crew felt strange, their whole gang seemed out of sorts. no wonder. i took a long walk with ryan around the parking lot in anaheim. i felt like the whole world had been thrown at him, in all it's shitty ugliness, and what could i say? better to say nothing. we walked, saying nothing and occasionally something. we started at the hooters billboard, hoisted 5 stories in the air to reach the passing traffic from the highway. we waled to the bud light billboard, hoisted 5 stories in the air to reach the passing traffic from the highway. do you have anyone real to talk to? i will. i'll talk to you. when you're ready. don't lose me. i'm an ally. really. i hugged him and i went back to the bus, getting into my bunk with a heaviness i couldn't describe. [italics added]
Stalkers and Gawkers,
The tables have been turned and now its your turn to be blinded by the flashing lights. For all you little prince and princesses attending the super serpentine show at The Key Club on Wednesday (8/16) in L.A. get ready to get your picture taken. That's right, this aint no average red carpet dilly. Yep, I said it,RED CARPET . Fans will have the chance to walk down the red carpet and be interviewed by Mr. Beckett, Mr. McCoy and Mr. Saporta. So make sure the stalkerazzi gets your best angle - dress accordingly and get ready to be all over page 6.

[panic! at the disco - wiltern - august 2, 2006]
so cute i could punch them both in the face. (lest people think i am a completely superficial psycho, i did like panic! *gasp- i'm admitting it* before i knew what they looked like. so uhh. there.)
ps. thank you bn for giving me yr photo pass. i'll give up my firstborn to you for that.
ps2. i totally forgot to mention that last tuesday at safari sam's i was in the craziest blogger sandwich ever. trent/pink is the new blog. sarah/ultragrrrl. irene/brokencalm. and then we danced and danced and danced and danced. i am the biggest dork ever. most def. one of my favorite moments in life.
i got some nice pictures of matchbook romance, queens of the stone age, the editors, the shins, and bloc party so that was cool. bloc party is adorable and fun.all the crazies i was with rode this thing while i photonerded it with my shutter speed thing:

and there was a ferris wheel.
um this made my day when i got home today:
ahklsdhgkh somorescene why are you so cool. hahah
"That’s birthday boy Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes giving William Beckett of The Academy Is… a kiss on the cheek during the Purevolume.com Warped Tour afterparty at MisShapes. Adorable!"
no shows till cobrastarship.
[panic! at the disco - wiltern - august 2, 2006]

[monty are i - henry fonda theatre - july 30, 2006]
we loves you.
andrew mcmahon [jack's mannequin/ something corporate] is so more hipster than he makes himself appear to be [disclaimer: i am using this term ridic loosely. thanks]. should've known when he said he goes to cinespace + spaceland. and then one time, when i confided in him that hipsters are intimidating sometimes.. "you just have to remember they're [just people too]." wise words. except i made up that bracketed portion.. mostly cos i can't remember what he said.
interview posted on livejournal yesterday:
One band we should look out for or listen to.
This band called the Cold War Kids out of California that I was trying to sign, but it looks like I missed the boat on, they’re great. Street to Nowhere from San Francisco- very, very, very cool band. They have a record out now called ‘Charmingly Awkward’ that’s really good, and they just signed to Capitol.
then of course ultragrrrl had blogged about Cold War Kids playing a show in NY on friday.
and of course rock insider posted mp3s of Cold War Kids and Street to Nowhere in this entry a few days ago.
so.. of course i had to check them out. btw hang me up to dry [cold war kids] is avail on rock insider's blog and that one is my favorite.
AND PS. GUESS WHO IS GOING TO THE SOLD OUT PANIC!/ DRESDEN DOLLS/ HUSH SOUND SHOW ON WEDNESDAY AT THE WILTERN. YEP. ME. YAAAAAAAA I'M SCREAMING LIKE A 12YR OLD.
I’ll be honest with you–none of the music I write about on here is going to end world hunger, or create peace in the Middle East. Some of the music might not even be very good. But the most important thing about this stuff is that it makes people happy. Some of the music saves kids’ lives and gives people hope. Have you seen anything more joyous than a sea of 1,000 kids simultaneously jumping up and down at a Taking Back Sunday concert at Irving Plaza like it’s the best day of their lives? I know I haven’t.
