love is such an awful thing to lose

another post because i'm awesome like that.

[the outline - bamboozle left - cal poly pomona - october 15, 2006]

more on fts here.

so you're looking for some big potential

la la finally posted photos of permanent me from bambyleft. herre. whoa nelly.

and it's only a justin-fest b/c i happened to be standing on his side. plus his sweater was colorful. case in point:

[permanent me - bamboozle left - cal poly pomona - october 15, 2006]

someone tell me where i saw this bunny and i'll give you.. my everlasting friendship. idk, i'm too poor for real prizes. elisa is excluded from this contest.

YAYYYYYYY pretty much one of my favorite songs off of dying to say this to you.
i like felix's hat.

though you're broken and defeated, your weary widow marches on

i've got a midterm coming up, so no photos for awhile. bear with me.

in the meantime, get my chem's new album and put it on repeat, because that's what i'm going to be doing for the foreseeable future.

i still don't know how i feel about the killers' album. i love "when you were young" but i'm all up in the air about the other songs. hrm. then again, i loved hot fuss SOMUCH that maybe it's just an unattainable standard that i have for them.

anyway, just wanted to assure yall that i am, in fact, alive. and also that if it were up to me.. i would be ryan ross for halloween. rosevest, theatrical + flamboyant makeup and all. a girl can dream, right?

step into my quiet violence

[something corporate - bamboozle left - cal poly pomona - october 14, 2006]

so i'm not really happy with most of the photos (posted the rest here), since hi, lighting was ridiculous. ridic BAD. red lighting = bad. lighting not on andrew = bad. lighting not on the rest of the band = triple hxc bad. i wish i had more photos of josh and bob but josh was just ooc.

but the show was magical. it was worth being almost crushed. and singing bgvs by myself.

holler at e and her first soco show!

I CANNOT WAIT TILL THE BLACK PARADE COMES OUT ON THE 24TH.

and now i am going to sleep.

nothing rhymes with circus

lol, i blog from the library now.

hrmm so that's what panic! at the disco ended up naming their tour..

some other names that were being thrown around [courtesy of my jm friends, who deserve pretty much all of the credit]:
- more wit, a better kiss, a hotter touch, a better **** tour
- intermission tour [shortest name ever]
- can't take the kid from the fight, take the fight from the kid tour
- keep telling yourself that i'm a diva tour
- wrecking this evening already and loving every minute of it tour
- with a sense of poise and rationality tour

i've never felt so lost, i've never felt so much at home

went to both dates of bamboozle left (left earlyyyy on sunday though). semi-photo update later this week of something corporate, permanent me, and the outline.

day one:
cobra starship- can we talk about how brilliant his motto is? "throw yr fangs up"?! and then seeing like a billion people do that back at him. ridic.
gym class heroes- travis brought sexy back.
hellogoodbye- as e says, their sound translates surprisingly well live. forrest screaming "welcome to the black parade" is probably something i'll remember for awhile.
jacks --> something corporate- we're not even going to talk about that right now.

day two:
permanent me- so awes and justin is so nice. i was being spazzy and awkward though.
the audition- pretty awesome. lolscenequeen spotted onstage.
the outline- ran over from the audition thinking we had 5 minutes. nope.. they were hitting their opening notes just as we rolled in. faves. always better live than on cd. "in light of recent news" sped up was perfect.

my only qualm- i don't like people who get photo passes and they have cams smaller than mine. i'm sorry but regular digital cams that can fit in your pocket are not worthy of a photo pass. i'm sure all the people with D-SLR cams probably look at mine and think the same thing, but seriously people. regular digital cameras are not photo pass worthy! >: o
[yes, i am ranting b/c i didn't get one. bamboozle needs to get on top of that shizz.]

UM ALSO JUST TO ADD SOME OF MY HORRIBLY INSIGNIFICANT THOUGHTS ON LIFE..
wouldn't it be amazing if everyone knew how to spell? i could stop having a spazz attack every time i see a typo. haha
what would also be amazing is if i could actually retain more of the things i read. i think my brain is full.

always love, hate will get you every time

i need to sleep but you wanna hear the greatest thing ever?
yes, you do.

someone ended up on this blog by googling "pictures of emo kids getting punched in the face." LOL.
why so much hate? i love scene/emo kids.

lots of fun news about shiny toy guns (cd coming out on universal on oct 17th) on a 10-date tour with the sounds but i'll deal with that later. if you want to see pretty pictures.. go here.

you're down with the japanese

PRETTY MUCH THE GREATEST VIDEO EVER MADE.
dresden dolls v. panic! at the disco - backstabber.

myspace bulletin "explaining" the video if you didn't know already..
While on tour together this summer, The Dresden Dolls teamed up with headliners Panic! At The Disco to film a video for The Dolls newest single, "Backstabber."

Midway through the tour, DD's Amanda Palmer had a revelation, "Why not make a video with these guys? They're here, they're bored like we are, they're hilarious." She shared in her online blog. "We aren't making a 'real' video for our next single,' She proclaimed. "'What's more real than this?' We keep asking. Nothing."

"It's not something that's going to be an official release to go to MTV, it's just that we were on tour with them and they came up with this idea to kind of do a funny thing." Panic! At The Disco's drummer, Spencer Smith, recently told online publication, Undercover. "It was just something that we were having fun doing at the time while being on tour and just something I guess for the fans of either of our bands to kinda see. It's just a fun bonus thing."
"People are just arrogant and ignorant." Panic! frontman Brendon Urie told dose.ca midway into the tour regarding inspiration for the video. "We're actually going to make a movie with the Dresden Dolls about that one thing [the fans fighting] to kind of poke fun at our fans for not being nice to each other."

Call it what you will -- the tour is over, the smoke has cleared, the video is done, and it's time for you to see...

Cheers,
Bill H.

*Be patient if it doesn't play right away as it was just uploaded and is getting a lot of hits so it may take a coupla tries to work

i've got the ballerina blues

soo irene dedicated an emo post to me last week. sooo this oohlas-inspired one's for her!

the oohlas are having their record release show at cinespace on sept 26th (tuesdays at cinespace sometimes scare me haha). but i'm going try to go anyway, unless some prof unexpectedly decides to assign 500 pages worth of reading for wednesday.

reasons you should go:
1. their music is so happy and adorable. even/especially when ollie is singing about chickens and suicide.
2. they themselves are freaking adorable.
3. trent from pitnb is hosting/ ultragrrrl is going to be in town to dj!
side story: i'm not even kidding, i thought the universe was going to explode when ollie met trent. two cutest human beings ever.
4. ollie takes quirky amazing photos.
5. irene takes amazing photos of the oohlas. like this one:

6. promises of balloons and cakes and champagne. we all know how much i love champ.
7. omg talk about an small emoworld. THEY RECENTLY PLAYED IN SD FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH HELLOGOODBYE. OMG HGB DVD ROTFL. WTH.
8. don't know why i'm surprised, cos 1/2 of jamisonparker drummed (for a bit) for the oohlas.
9. this list is losing relevance.
10. just go. k?

pre-order the oohlas: best stop pop here. first 30 get a special edition poster thing.

shoutout to the clevecrew + rhonda who is representing me as miss california.. who are all in VA via hiptop. as ashley said: "via hiptop drunkards and lil scrappy bring on the lolz."

also have to thank everyone who has donated thus far to light the night. i've upped my goal to $500 because yall are mazie. xo

ps. i wish i lived in europe because. panic! the sounds. *dies.*

i liked mikey way a whole lot more before he got lasik surgery

ya i'm superficial. loved his glasses. :( but it's okay. my heart will always belong to mychem.

[my chemical romance - dead - reading and leeds festival]
**umm 2:48 SO CUTE and happy. very "prison" in the beginning.

thanks to lyingintraffic.

i'd also like to mention that permanent me is re-releasing their ep "dear virginia" october 17th. i love their song "allison" and THEY ARE PLAYING BAMBOOZLE LEFT. yesyesyesyesyes

andy you're a star, in nobody's eyes but mine

friends, foes, readers, and peeps in general,
on september 17th, i will be walking @ the UCLA—i feel like a traitor already—campus for light the night (a fundraiser for the leukemia & lymphoma society). yes, it’s true; i will actually be doing something for the good of humanity (difficult to fathom, i know). apparently, lawyers-in-training are allowed one non-evil act per year.

anyhow, all joking aside, i am asking for your help in reaching my goal of raising $100 (or more!). if you’re interested in donating to help me reach/surpass my goal and make a difference, you can make a secure online donation at: http://www.active.com/donate/ltnLosAn/1879_mshiokura. every little bit counts, i swear.

hearts and unicorns, thanks and loves,
mao
ps. why didn’t anyone tell me to listen to the new (not really) muse album earlier?! I’VE BEEN MISSING OUT.

so proud: rehearsals.com's interview for tour for the cure + dear jack foundation (go here and click on watch video: tour for the cure).

and in other unrelated news, i haven't stopped listening to my chemical romance's new single, welcome to the black parade, which is posted on their myspace. I LOVE IT.

Friday, September 01, 2006

we'll carry on

love love love. 1) i'm in love with like 4 out of the 5 members of the band. 2) it's def. a different sound for mcr, but i freakin love it. so happy.

but don't stop if i fall, and don't look back

1. anyone else find it hilarious that google adsense thinks i am a lesbian? it also appears that i am obsessed with: emo and snake repellent. good to know.
this blog has totally become my procrastination tool. i find i'm blogging more when i have a bunch of reading to do.

2. i'm pretty jealous of e right now. let's just say someone owes us big time. (i love using the royal we/us)

3. just thought i'd link this: floating along in belize. pretty self-explanatory (if you read the heading/descrip) but if you're too lazy to look, it's a blog by a peacecorps volunteer.

4. i'm skipping the first bar review tonight. for those who are unfamiliar with the term.. it literally means to go to a bar. and review it. as in, you know. imbibe.

5. can't wait for the weekend. THREE DAY WEEKEND.

Sunday, August 27, 2006

"black mamba is a deadly, venomous, sexy snake"

guess you learn something new everyday. i'll bet you thought i'd stop talking about snakes on a plane already. right? right?

nope.

i rly should go study. sorry. photos will have to wait. except.. one.

[felix rodriguez - the sounds - wiltern - august 19, 2006]

i promise i'll work on some next weekend. PROMISE.
ps. four reasons why october will be amazing. 1) bamboozle left (i maintain that pomona does NOT count as an "la" date for jm); 2) my chemical romance - the black parade; 3) cobra starship - while the city sleeps.. we rule the streets; 4) the killers - sam's town. holla.

Friday, August 25, 2006

so throw on the black dress, mix in with the lot

my chemical romance. the black parade (their new album out oct 24th). video interview. holy.. watch it here. now.

someone needs to get this on youtube asap. is it crapping out for everyone too, in the last 2 minutes?

the world can be ugly, but isn't it beautiful?

so last year was a big deal because this happened.
i'm not one to celebrate anniversaries nor am i one who likes to look back in time and remember the periods of my life that were not particularly the best.

With each new day it becomes more apparent to me that everything and everyone in this world is connected in some beautiful and inexplicable way, and the more I accept that, the more my world seems to come together... I feel cradled by this universe and the immense love that comes from it.

-andrew mcmahon

today, my mother took one of our doggies to the vet today to have her put to sleep. she was an old grandma, starting to lose her mind a bit, and slowly growing more deaf and blind each passing day. she was sick the past 3 days, unable to keep food down and howling throughout the night. though i think she must be happy where she is now, and it's been a hell of a week really, trying to grapple with this and my first week of school.

when one life ends, another begins. like jenny said once, "i appreciate you getting better." thanks, andrew. ps. everyone, the dark blue video will be amazing. there's the plug.

i don't know why i can be personal on here (don't worry, it won't happen often, and you'll get your daily dose of emao soon enough) but i guess sometimes it's easier to tell people/readers who you don't know rather than those who you know personally. though i know some of my friends do read this ;)

on a side note, i am literally taking caffeine to the bloodstream. fortunately, have avoided the redbull (thanks e) but i just might give in.. very very soon. pardon the weirdness of this blog, i have a bunch of reading to get done but i had to get that off my chest.

Monday, August 21, 2006

just look at how much we've changed

as some of you may know, i will be starting law school in less than 8 hrs today. this means that i will probably be photo-ing a lot less, and blogging a lot less. hopefully, AIMing/myspacing a lot less, but i make no guarantees. my priority is going to be school now (i know, it really should be shows > everything else in life. i wish :) ). EMO4LYFE.

new friends who have changed my life in more ways they will ever know (thanks jm), old friends who have stuck by me during my "slacker" period.. thank you. i am the person i am today because of you guys, and i will always be thankful. i’ve had the most amazing year off this past year, and i know that while i’ll never be able to go back to those glory days.. i will hold on to those memories when life is sucking—which i hear happens quite often for 1-Ls.

now, remind me not to become a bitter, horrible, mean lawyer-type and keep me in check sometimes. i will do my best to retain my sense of humor.

i love you all.
xoxo

ps. the sounds show saturday night blew me away. the best show BY FAR. amazing amazing amazing. i kept looking at the crowd singing every word of "night after night" (the slow version btw) and i just grinned like an idiot. maja absolutely loved the crowd so i believe there was more skirt-hiking and underwear-flashing than usual hahah.. i'm so glad i went-- it was the perfect way to spend my last weekend before law school. so happy. will probably try to get these photos posted, along with the rest of the snakes on a plane party, at the end of this week.

Saturday, August 19, 2006

we got a free upgrade for snakes on a plane

**I REALIZE THIS IS A LATE POST. the combo of this show + photos + orientation (among other things) has killed me.

[snakes on a plane soundtrack party - key club - august 16, 2006]
on wednesday, at the key club, my little emo heart exploded and will never be put back together again. i told someone before the show that "the entire world" was going to be there, to which he replied, "the key club isn't big enough to hold the whole world." which is true. so i responded "well MY world will be in that room." friend-friends. show/jm friends. "work" friends. everyone else. and then, of course, the who's who of the scene world. scene queens. and thesounds. jacksmannequin. theacademyis williambeckett. gymclassheroes. cobrastarship. falloutboy. ALL IN ONE TINY VENUE. if panic! was there i probably would've passed out. literally.

the lineup was awes (the sounds, gym class acoustic, jack's acoustic, william solo, cobrastarship with all the guestmembers, then fall out boy). i was all ready with my photopass when of course, i have a battery malfunction issue. backup batteries are of no use either. after a pretty major freakout session, it was resolved. i have to thank e and irene for dealing with me and helping me out in every way they could. i have to thank the staff and security at key club for being so nice. and the guy at the liquor store on the corner of doheny and sunset. i almost hugged him as he sold me the batteries, but i just told him that he had just saved my life. without you all.. there would be no photoblog today.

1. maja is amazing. but you knew that already.
2. gym class heroes, i missed part of their set.. but the best was when patrick stump came out to sing cupid's chokehold, the scene kids are freaking out, and irene texts me "who is that guy from?" 3. i tried not to look too excited during jack's, but who am i kidding? someone from buzznet snapped a photo of me while i was geeking out. 4. apparently i looked like a scene kid and not some official photog b/c i must've been asked at least 5 times if i had a media pass.
5. william beckett. messing up the words to attention. interrupted by travis. and gabe. the kids singing along to EVERY WORD. i didn't care how stupid i looked. the entire room singing an entire first part of the song up till the chorus, and william just standing back in awe. THAT IS LOVE. then he was like "alright i'm going to sing it now." **lighting sucked hxc during his set :(6. cobrastarship. the snakes song killed me. i died. and then my camera decided that it was in love with william beckett. 7. fall out boy. that was ridiculous. i could feel the venue floor shaking and the kids going absolutely nuts. NUTS. some dudes who were geeking out to fall out boy later tried to hit on me. haha sorry guys. and i'm sure everyone would love to argue that they suck and that they sold out and pete wentz is.. blah blah. but you know what, they put on an amazing show. they love their fans. they love playing for them. i sang along to every word i knew. (bad picture, but how happy does he look? he has the best smile.)

Monday, August 14, 2006

for a minute there, i lost myself

if you want to know what to do in la this week, irene has a comprehensive list here. i'll be in attendance of all sounds + snakes-related events. unfortch, skipping out on the sounds djing cinespace tonight due to the lovely homework that was assigned at orientation today.

i finished some of my photos from street scene (from two weekends ago) but have yet to post them; still have to finish the monty are i ones.. and i will have photos from tomorrow's cobra starship (along with "special guests") show! i promise i'll get these done before school starts next monday. i'm pretty sure i'm going to miss having a life once school starts.

pretty much the most boring post ever.
my back hurts. time to dance sleep.

Saturday, August 12, 2006

it was screaming photo op

the sounds boys (felix/ johan/ frederik/ jesper) omgzzzqtslolz HAHAH

and then, of course, obligatory william beckett photo.

what's up william? c u next tuesday wednesday.

all photos from the misshapes (purevolume warped afterparty).

i think there's something more life's worth living for

basically, i'm excerpting a bunch from a recent entry from amanda palmer's [the dresden dolls] blog. because she writes things in such amazing ways that i couldn't even describe the effect they've had on me over the past few days. i've only seen them twice live and i pretty much think i love them.

two years ago, when we were touring europe and i was at my wits end, thinking that the band was going to break up, thinking that it was all over and that brian and I had had enough of each other for good, i found a bright spot in listening to avril lavigne's new record and deciding to make a fake video out of the song "together". you've seen the results (if you haven't: www.dresdendolls.com/music/karaoke/index.htm). it was truly cathartic. i don't think anyone really believes me when i say that. having a project like that to throw myself into saved me. the song, with all it's adolescent cheese and overproduction, gave me a wormhole back to 15-year-old self, the lonely confused one eating her lunch in the piano practice room.[italics added]

i'm emotionally purging as we speak. (you can check my last.fm if you want)

a week before the tour ended, we got the call in seattle that ryan's [of panic! at the disco] dad had suddenly died. his only close family. he was an only child and his mom was out of the picture. our hearts sank, we sat in the bus and all looked at each other at a loss for words.

they canceled two shows. we almost didn't want to get the call that the shows were on, because we assumed that that would mean that ryan had been talked into coming back on tour when he should be at home, dealing. dealing with who, with what? ryan came back on tour after three days off, we finished up in california. the whole crew felt strange, their whole gang seemed out of sorts. no wonder. i took a long walk with ryan around the parking lot in anaheim. i felt like the whole world had been thrown at him, in all it's shitty ugliness, and what could i say? better to say nothing. we walked, saying nothing and occasionally something. we started at the hooters billboard, hoisted 5 stories in the air to reach the passing traffic from the highway. we waled to the bud light billboard, hoisted 5 stories in the air to reach the passing traffic from the highway. do you have anyone real to talk to? i will. i'll talk to you. when you're ready. don't lose me. i'm an ally. really. i hugged him and i went back to the bus, getting into my bunk with a heaviness i couldn't describe. [italics added]

i read that entire part over and over again (after i first saw it in the panic lj community). took me two days to blog about it, but here it is.

bought the cheap champagne, we're going down in flames

via myspaceeeeeee bulletin (tai and cobra starship)
Stalkers and Gawkers,

The tables have been turned and now its your turn to be blinded by the flashing lights. For all you little prince and princesses attending the super serpentine show at The Key Club on Wednesday (8/16) in L.A. get ready to get your picture taken. That's right, this aint no average red carpet dilly. Yep, I said it, RED CARPET. Fans will have the chance to walk down the red carpet and be interviewed by Mr. Beckett, Mr. McCoy and Mr. Saporta. So make sure the stalkerazzi gets your best angle - dress accordingly and get ready to be all over page 6.

Snakes on a Plane

yea, don't even pretend you're too scene to be excited.

i remember when i lost my mind

add him www.myspace.com/robabergas and download the cover of crazy. btw, he takes requests too.

more panic! photos + dresden dolls + the hush sound, of course.

[panic! at the disco - wiltern - august 2, 2006]
so cute i could punch them both in the face. (lest people think i am a completely superficial psycho, i did like panic! *gasp- i'm admitting it* before i knew what they looked like. so uhh. there.)

ps. thank you bn for giving me yr photo pass. i'll give up my firstborn to you for that.
ps2. i totally forgot to mention that last tuesday at safari sam's i was in the craziest blogger sandwich ever. trent/pink is the new blog. sarah/ultragrrrl. irene/brokencalm. and then we danced and danced and danced and danced. i am the biggest dork ever. most def. one of my favorite moments in life.

my love is a fast song

school starts in less than 13 days which kind of sucks. i should probably quit whining about it though, since i chose to go back. however.. it'll be okay b/c orientation week coincides with COBRA STARSHIP/SoaP WEEK (and rhonda's bday on the 15th). aka i see them a bunch and my final send off is the sounds show @ the wiltern. hollaaa

rob and i went insane about a week ago.
rob (10:29:54 PM): well the external hard drive isn't more likely to die than the one in your computer
rob (10:30:06 PM): as long as you don't play frisbee with the external case
rob (10:30:08 PM): do you?
me (10:30:11 PM): oh crap.. i just played ultimate today
me (10:30:19 PM): asdl;fhlksdhsdlkhf

i wouldn't front the scene if you paid me

so i didn't even get to fully emo out b/c... my chemical romance cancelled this weekend's street scene perf! boo. well i hope nothing terrible happened to them. but still. boo. no gerard, no mikey, no frankie, no ray, no bob. boo boo boo.

update: apparently bob and gerard were injured pretty badly filming their new vid. hope they get better soon!
these girls had cute shirts/jax. i got some nice pictures of matchbook romance, queens of the stone age, the editors, the shins, and bloc party so that was cool. bloc party is adorable and fun.

all the crazies i was with rode this thing while i photonerded it with my shutter speed thing:

and there was a ferris wheel. um this made my day when i got home today:

ahklsdhgkh somorescene why are you so cool. hahah
"That’s birthday boy Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes giving William Beckett of The Academy Is… a kiss on the cheek during the Purevolume.com Warped Tour afterparty at MisShapes. Adorable!"

no shows till cobrastarship.

this is how we live, this is what we breathe

i posted the outline photos here. i still rly don't like flash, but what can you do.
recap of the dance party: CRAZY. the kids were all sweating. the band was sweating. the light fixtures and room was sweating. i'm pretty sure i lost about 5 lbs of water weight on saturday. it was SO much fun and the crowd had crazy energy. this is basically why i love all-ages shows.. the kids seriously heart the music. ima robot was ridic kinetic. i didn't want to be molested by lead singer but he pulled a girl onstage from the front and danced with her during one of the songs which was cute. anddd yea. lots of scene photog kids. loved it.

the next day:
monty are i was amazing. a) the photo pass wristband also happened to be the same as the all-access wristband (though i didn't abuse that privilege.. not really) + b) we were allowed to stay up there for more than 3 songs, so i just shot a bunch and watched the show from in front of the barricade. so nice. here's a prev.

[monty are i - henry fonda theatre - july 30, 2006]

we loves you.

you can't spell STAR without A & R

andrew mcmahon [jack's mannequin/ something corporate] is so more hipster than he makes himself appear to be [disclaimer: i am using this term ridic loosely. thanks]. should've known when he said he goes to cinespace + spaceland. and then one time, when i confided in him that hipsters are intimidating sometimes.. "you just have to remember they're [just people too]." wise words. except i made up that bracketed portion.. mostly cos i can't remember what he said.

interview posted on livejournal yesterday:
One band we should look out for or listen to.

This band called the Cold War Kids out of California that I was trying to sign, but it looks like I missed the boat on, they’re great. Street to Nowhere from San Francisco- very, very, very cool band. They have a record out now called ‘Charmingly Awkward’ that’s really good, and they just signed to Capitol.

then of course ultragrrrl had blogged about Cold War Kids playing a show in NY on friday.

and of course rock insider posted mp3s of Cold War Kids and Street to Nowhere in this entry a few days ago.

so.. of course i had to check them out. btw hang me up to dry [cold war kids] is avail on rock insider's blog and that one is my favorite.

AND PS. GUESS WHO IS GOING TO THE SOLD OUT PANIC!/ DRESDEN DOLLS/ HUSH SOUND SHOW ON WEDNESDAY AT THE WILTERN. YEP. ME. YAAAAAAAA I'M SCREAMING LIKE A 12YR OLD.

so more scene

I’ll be honest with you–none of the music I write about on here is going to end world hunger, or create peace in the Middle East. Some of the music might not even be very good. But the most important thing about this stuff is that it makes people happy. Some of the music saves kids’ lives and gives people hope. Have you seen anything more joyous than a sea of 1,000 kids simultaneously jumping up and down at a Taking Back Sunday concert at Irving Plaza like it’s the best day of their lives? I know I haven’t.
