free event: pablove supreme

check out some bands and feel good this holiday season!

Pablove Supreme: a night in honor of the Pablove Foundation
when: December 16, 2008 FREE – All Ages – 6pm
where: @ Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood (1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd/ Los Angeles, CA 90028)
brought to you by Dangerbird Records, Filter Magazine, and Urban Outfitters/ performances by The One AM Radio, Eulogies, and special guests*

FYI:
The Pablove Supreme event is to celebrate and promote the good work of the Pablove Foundation, a charity that supports pediatric cancer treatment and research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Dangerbird Records, Filter Magazine, and Urban Outfitters teamed up earlier this year to create the Give Listen Help compilation to benefit the charity. The double CD, which is being sold at Urban Outfitters and on their website, includes rare and unreleased tracks by Garbage, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Oasis, CSS, Of Montreal, Rilo Kiley, Silversun Pickups, and many others.

The Pablove Foundation is named for Pablo Castelaz, the 5-year old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz. Pablo was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer in May 2008. He has been undergoing treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a non-profit institution dedicated to providing expert medical help to everyone, regardless of health insurance or their ability to pay. Last year alone, CHLA gave $54 million in charitable care.

light the night 2008

because i only blog when i'm asking for something....

Hello Readers,

It's that time of year again—for the third year in a row, I'm participating in the Light the Night walk here at UCLA on September 14, 2008. I'm walking in support and in honor of Andrew McMahon, lead singer of the bands Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate, bone marrow transplant recipient, and leukemia survivor. I am asking for your help in reaching my goal of raising $1,000 this year.

If you are interested in donating to help me reach my goal and to make a difference, you can make a secure online donation at http://www.active.com/donate/ltnLosAn/2385_mshiokura.

Please join me in supporting this wonderful cause.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
xoxo

la la light the night

occasionally, i use my blogger powers for good rather than evil. here goes nothing:

Dear Readers & Friends,

I will be walking in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk at UCLA on Sunday, September 16th for the second year in a row. I am asking for your help in reaching my goal of raising $1000 this year. If you are interested in donating to help me reach my goal and make a difference, you can make a secure online donation at http://www.active.com/donate/ltnLosAn/2045_mshiokura. No amount is too big or too small!

WHY: As many of you may or may not know, Andrew McMahon, the lead singer of my favorite bands Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin, was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. On August 23rd, 2007, he will be celebrating the two-year anniversary of a stem cell transplant that saved his life. So it would really mean a lot to him and to me, if you all could support this worthy cause.

ALSO: This year, I will be leading several of the Southern California Jack’s Mannequin teams as TEAM CAPTAIN! I am hoping some of you would like to join my team(s). If you are interested in joining Team Jack’s Mannequin in the Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire, or San Diego area, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly (leave me a comment with your email address) or check out http://www.lightthenight.org/. I promise it’ll be fun!

SPECIAL THANKS: Last but definitely not least, I would like to thank those of you who gave so generously last year. With your support, I raised over $500, which absolutely blew me away. THANK YOU!

Love, Mao
