xmas eve, leisurely spent

officially turned in my paper 2 days ago. life feels good.

heard two songs the other day on indie that i really liked... one was glasvegas "geraldine" and the other was longwave "sirens in the deep sea." upon further listening, i'm going to have to get their album secrets are sinister. i highly rec you listen to that single-- the sound is so lush... loves it. they're here in march-ish opening for OKGO, but i don't see an LA date.. blasphemy! there are still a few days between their dates in anaheim and santa cruz, so hopefully it'll happen. i mean, cmon, it's la. you don't skip over us or stand us up.

today, i perused amazon and itunes listening to stuff (if all this is old news, sorry, i've been living in a cavernous location for quite some time this semester): css, little boots, mezzanine owls, & paper route. if anyone has any show suggestions from this date forward, please share. i'm back on the prowl for new bands and i've got a perfectly compatible new year's resolution: go out more. yes!

free event: pablove supreme

check out some bands and feel good this holiday season!

Pablove Supreme: a night in honor of the Pablove Foundation
when: December 16, 2008 FREE – All Ages – 6pm
where: @ Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood (1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd/ Los Angeles, CA 90028)
brought to you by Dangerbird Records, Filter Magazine, and Urban Outfitters/ performances by The One AM Radio, Eulogies, and special guests*

FYI:
The Pablove Supreme event is to celebrate and promote the good work of the Pablove Foundation, a charity that supports pediatric cancer treatment and research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Dangerbird Records, Filter Magazine, and Urban Outfitters teamed up earlier this year to create the Give Listen Help compilation to benefit the charity. The double CD, which is being sold at Urban Outfitters and on their website, includes rare and unreleased tracks by Garbage, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Oasis, CSS, Of Montreal, Rilo Kiley, Silversun Pickups, and many others.

The Pablove Foundation is named for Pablo Castelaz, the 5-year old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz. Pablo was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer in May 2008. He has been undergoing treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a non-profit institution dedicated to providing expert medical help to everyone, regardless of health insurance or their ability to pay. Last year alone, CHLA gave $54 million in charitable care.

the graduate, revisited

short linkspam post: everyone should check out the graduate. because i said so.

- 4 free downloadable songs here.
- videoblogs on their youtube channel here.
- anhedonia amazon mp3's for just $2.99. THE WHOLE ALBUM. i think the offer is only for a limited time. get on it.

in other news, finals period is underway. absolutely terrifying. no matter how many times i go through it, it does not get any easier D: listening to a lot of iron & wine to keep myself sedated, especially "flightless bird, american mouth" (how amazing was the placement of the song during bella & edward's slowdance prom scene? eh?).

and so the lion ate the lamb for breakfast

twilight - the movie
(BECAUSE, LOOK, I'M NEVER GOING TO GET OVER IT. OK?)

win:
+ i ship rpattz/ray-bans and jacob/formal wear. a lot.

+ my favorite character, alice!!!

+ baseball scene (alice and jasper ftw!)

+ kitchen scene (emmett wave, alice entrance, edward's expressions)

+ victoria/rachelle lefevre is fierce (but hardly has any lines)

+ charlie, ngl you actually felt for him when he said "we could do things..."

+ YOU BROUGHT A SNACK - never fails

+ ok i love edward's vamp!hair. sorry. and rpattz's overacting when he's being emo. i kind of expected it given how expressive he is IRL. what i did not expect was the endless lulz it brought.

+ the humans-- yes, they were cheesy. and stereotypical. and whoa! multicultural. but at least they were there, being human... instead of like random side characters that bella forgets about by the time the series is over. i liked when bella sees them being normal and joking around while exiting a restaurant/coffee shop (?) when she's in the truck trying to escape james.

fail:
- kstew: i get it. you have a fierce b!tchface which is kind of awesome in photographs. but look, even though bella is the biggest non-character ever, i don't think bella looked permanently aloof and/or comatose the whole time. where was the obsessive bella? where was the effect of being "dazzled?" you throw in a scene about you dreaming about him and then "you're beautiful" and then you're like 0 to sparkle!love in 20 seconds. what gives?

- also, i'm fairly certain kstew was playing the role of bella kstew.

- meadow scene: mostly lolarious. see: delivery of "as if you could outrun me! as if you could fight me off!"; see also: sparkle!time "this is the skin of a killah!"

- plot holes and/or things that are assumed because apparently we've all read the book: fan blowing in bio lab, where is 20 questions in the volvo, why do they love each other (other than that she's a freesia-scented nomnom), why bella doesn't wear more clothes when she's lying next to ice-cold marble adonis edward, inexplicable pianoward bella's lullaby, where's jasper's power, lack of explanation re: alice's vision of seeing vamp!bella, lack of explanation in ballet studio of how alice got vamped... ok, sorry, too much fail for one bullet point.

- still not convinced that nikki reed is rosalie. she looked like she was going to laugh when bella said "oh, where i become a meal?" and the jeans in the cafeteria scene. were. atrocious. plz to be burning your wardrobe kthxbai

- sepia-toned flashbacks were lame.

- i still do not get how easy it was for bella to escape alice and jasper. one, jasper is highly sensitive to emotions and feelings. two, alice is A PSYCHIC VAMPIRE. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO ESCAPE A VAMPIRE WHO ALREADY KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO?

- the movie needed MOAR JACKSPER.

list is subject to change w/o further notice.

UPDATE: the always incredible cleolinda has posted her "twilight in 15 mins" parody. plz to be reading. ~*spoiler alert*~ don't read it if you don't want breaking dawn ruined for you. or if you take the movie really, really, really seriously.

all me, he's mine... my snack!

snack attack all day! starbursts... rice crackers... chocolate truffles... hungry again. my eating habits = OOC and really, what is stopping me from eating myself into some sort of excessive sugar/carb/random meat coma? i will never know. one of the many consequences of staying at home to study. whatev, gotta store up some energy reserves for finals anyway.

took a listen to the death cab cd, narrow stairs. none of the songs really caught my ear the way transatlanticism or plans did, but i'm hoping it was just cos i was distracted.

remember when i said i would stop talking about this movie? no. oldie but a goodie:
[twilight trailer spoof]

he still has my nickelback cd, i kinda want that back...

k, it's been a long day for me. goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

you'd better hold on tight, spidermonkey

last night, the sounds played a few new songs that they've been recording. so so so good. i esp liked the first one... not sure what it was called though. of course, old crowd-pleasing favorites were played, and i again have a massive crush on all of the members. i hope they don't read this.

twilight = oh deer. i'm going to save my commentary for another day. excuse me while i mourn the loss of my brain cells and my dignity. and my hopes for this movie. ::sits down in a corner, facing the wall::

as you may notice, the time left until finals begin and the time spent utilizing procrastination methods are inversely related. therefore, i think i'm starting a new series of blog posts called "adventures in procrastination." this is where i blog about whatever i feel like blogging about. plus my mom is gone for a few weeks which means my eating habits are going to be absolutely insane.

for example, today i have eaten:
4:00am: mcdonald's chicken strips, med fries, and a med diet coke
1:00pm: chicken thigh, skittles
6:00pm: slice of pep pizza, a few bites of fish, edamame
ETA: 10:00pm: chocolate truffle, miso soup

that was probably the most protein i've gotten this whole week.

also, ETA: thoughts for the day
- what is the sound of one vampire sparkling? trust me... they do.
- if edward sparkles, and bella isn't around to hear it, then does edward make a sparkle!noise?

my thoughts you can't decode

[paramore - decode on jimmy kimmel live]

photos of hayley and the gang (yes, i know paramore is a band) at the twilight premiere here courtesy of ONTD.

out of the two songs on the twilight soundtrack, i think i prefer "i caught myself" mostly b/c it more in the vein of pop-py/punk paramore. decode is just too much angstward/bellaswansong, tbh.

ps. the hq option on youtube is sooooooooooo much awesomer than reg. q!

what makes you drink, sit and sink

caught part of the grad's set on thurs @ the troub. leave it to me to be incapable of leaving on time, and leave it to LA to dish out some optimal traffic when i'm trying to get to a venue like 6 miles from my house. they're heading back home and then to baltimore to write/record etc. so it'll be awhile till they're out here again.

since anhedonia revisited won't be released, here are two tracks that were going to be on the release that the band re-recorded. download from the links below... to your heart's content:

click to d/l "the formula"
click to d/l "interlude 2.0"

[the graduate - interlude 2.0]

ps. the skippy part @ 3.17 interlude 2.0 is quite possibly my favorite moment evs. *continues inarticulate fawning*

sippin' the kool aid

ngl, the vid gives me the creeps, but i've heard it on indie 2x and thought it was a fab song.. the kind that would totally get me going during a workout.. if.. i were ever to make it to the gym. sorry, mom, for still making you pay for my membership. anyhow, it's techno rock ish and totally energizing. see below.

[pendulum - propane nightmares music vid]

also i just got the shinys, dcfc, and TAI cds. yay weekend project.

i wrote a book about myself, and i liked it

THIS DAY COULD NOT START OFF MORE EPICALLY.

apologies in advance if you think my obsession with twilight is problematic (but the movie comes out in a week and i am ready to squee like the fangirl i am at the midnight showing). move along, nothing to see here.

what's better than the movie is the PR mess the two leads are creating. SO HILAR. idk how you would even try to play this off as somehow positive. trust me, i can turn a lot of words around on you... but this... this is epic.

rpattz dallas interview: at 2:13 "...when i first read it, i thought that stephenie meyer completely believed that she was bella, and she was just completely insane, and this wass just her private sexual fantasy novel, which seems published by accident."

kstew article: (re: stalker fans @ shooting locations) "I just didn't pay attention," Stewart recalls. "I was like, 'You guys are celebrating something that has not come true yet. So, you are really retarded and have nothing to do with this creative process and I really don't want to hear you celebrate in front of me. Get out of here! It's my responsibility!'"

rpattz e! online interview: a deluge of choice quotes... where shall i begin. perhaps at 3:33: "when i read it... i was convinced that stephenie was convinced that she was bella." "it was like a book that wasn't supposed to be published"... more sexual fantasy... blah blah "this woman is mad, and in love with her own fictional creation."

perhaps this is his form of revenge for smeyer saying "i don't think you'd want him for a boyfriend." rob was troubled by this statement for awhile, as evidenced in this interview by variety.

epic twi-spam roundup by cleolinda here.

cruel to be kind, in the right measure

letters to cleo (reunion!), tonight @ the roxy. the oohlas r opening. doors at 8.

i can has a nostalgic moment?

hay there, edward and jacob

i guess this is an old meme but twilight is a relatively recent phenom... watch/listen to it once, you won't be able to forget it. read the interesting history of the song originally from sweden (but eventually crossed over to japan) on wikipedia.

i'm never going to get over this song.

10 things i hate about you

before miley cyrus ruined that whole line with her 7 things song... blah blah ok i don't hate her. i just have a lot of love for that movie, okay?

anyhow, i've been neglecting my blog and abusing my twitter. i also don't have much of a social life (le sigh) so it's been increasingly difficult to keep up with everything going on. some updates:

- shiny toy guns have an album out today-- kind of loving "ghost town." need to get on that asap.
- the oohlas are opening for letters to cleo, this saturday @ the roxy. get tickets here. i bought one extra so i need a date.
- the graduate is no longer re-releasing their anhedonia-revisited album. they'll be @ the troub on the 13th with ludo and the higher. tix here. (e, are we still going?)
- the sounds are @ the palladium on the 21st.

Monday, November 03, 2008

dear google

please remove these grammatically incorrect "yes on prop 8" ads from my blog. i will love you more than i already do.

sincerely,
m

ps. NO ON PROP 8 FTW!!!

get in the car, i'm a friend of your mother

[paramore - decode music video]

ngl guys, twilight coming out in nov is like xmas came early for me. before finals. and that is the only time it would count, anyway.

ETA: srry guys, mtv has an "embed" option yet it doesn't work on blogger... fail.

are we human, or are we dancer?

best fb status i've seen thus far that relates to the song:
"Jason is: wondering whether Obama can answer the question of whether we are Human or Dancer in his first term."

the song is epic, check the link on my twitter page for the vid.

also need to listen to the following albums:
- kings of leon only by the night
- the killers day & age, whenever that comes out
- the academy is... fast times at barrington high
- does it offend you, yea? you have no idea...
- that kanye west album that came out like a year ago
any other rec's? i need catchy, easy to listen to stuff to accompany me during my lonely nights @ school.

it started feeling like october

amazing, isn't it-- the first time i heard that line in "annie use your telescope" was when it had just become october. and now we're two-thirds into the month.

honestly, i don't know where this semester has gone. for one, things have changed since the end of september... things are always changing. even when i finally think the motion has settled, it's only because i've gotten used to the situation shifting. chaos is constant in its own weird way.

whirlwind is so oddly appropos to describe my life right now. i've settled into a habit, school, work, school, work, work, work... and so on. i forgot to renew the book i'd checked out a few weeks ago. momentary lapse in memory. being on campus is so normal-- i just wish school were closer so i didn't waste so much gas shuttling myself back and forth.

friendships made, lost, and then hopefully made again. some days i don't know what i'm working toward; and other days, it's so obvious. it's those days where i feel so aimless that i wish i could rein in the feeling of "knowing," and save it for those days when i need it. in my ideal world, i would allow myself to drift and see where i'm taken; but i know that the control freak in me would not appreciate it. at all. i need to at least pretend to have direction. see where i can take myself with maximum effort. and then decide: do i like where i am, or don't i?

on the subject of music, i finally caved and signed up for pandora. i really liked it the first few times i've used it, so i'm hoping to get into that more. otherwise, i've been listening to the veronicas' album hook me up as a totally gratuitous pick-me-up. i love that they've gone for a more dancier vibe than their previous album (which is somewhere in my stacks of cds, needs to be found sometime asap). they are just so cute and it makes me happy.

needless to say, i'm in a strange limbo place right now. i don't know if i belong in certain worlds. but if i try, i know i can make myself.

take only what you need from me

from the "secret" show @ viper room last night... prior to starting the song, he mentioned that it was a song that they were thinking of covering acoustically, but their acoustic equipment has/had already been shipped off to ATL where they start their tour in a few days. he also mentioned he was totally obsessed with the song... and then he starts singing and my heart. literally. exploded. I SANG ALONG, BECAUSE I'M NOT COOL OR INDIE. the end.

[jack's mannequin - kids (mgmt cover)]

every aching wound will cauterize and bruise

i've been obsessed with this acoustic version of the song since i heard it on gossip girl...
"Fell In Love Without You (Acoustic)" video

why would you settle for less when the world gives you more

a few weeks ago i went with irene to the submarines (opening for the brazilian girls) @ the wiltern. hadn't been there (or even out to a show) in awhile; headed over post-class and found some street parking which is always convenient. since i was only there for the opening act, the wiltern was a bit empty so we snagged front row of one of the tiers. the place filled up later on as the brazilian girls' set time got closer.

the subs were so cute-- the lead singer reminds me of how maggie gyllenhaal would be if she were a singer + a dash of the cardigans. she was a tad under the weather b/c she was sick, but considering that fact, i still loved how they sounded live. whenever i haven't been to a show in awhile, i forget how much more i like live versions of songs (provided that the band is a good live band). hearing the same songs that i've been listening to on my ipdmini, but in real, live form-- with the little inflections in voice-- truly is the best way to hear a song. there were tambourines, flowers, little keyboards, and lights... "you, me, and the bourgeosie" is still one of my main obsessions this year. loved the little electro-random sounds.

they had a cover of "boys don't cry" posted on their myspace, but as of yesterday, have no idea where it went. if anyone finds it and would like to send me a link... plz to be doing so.

i hit up the rock band live tour last night; then skipped out on panic at the disco so the secret jack's mannequin show at viper room. more later, i guess.

FOREVER. BEGINS. NAO.

omg epic lulz!! noteworthy: rpattz's random accent, kstew "vampire," tree-hopping, tree-throwing, SMUGWARD + raybans, y no sparkles?, apple symbolism- oic wut u did there...

Twilight Trailer

Friday, October 03, 2008

it's just that at night i've got nowhere to hide

these hammers and strings
been following me around

i'd just gotten halfway through the third run of The Glass Passenger. somewhere during "Hammers and Strings," i just felt complete. i was overwhelmed, but totally ok. i actually cried; i'd zoned out and before i knew it the tears were flowing. i was so glad i'd kept myself away from most of the youtube videos and from listening to the leak. it was worth it to have the actual cd in my laptop, knowing this was the real thing... that it was real.

i listened to the song again. my memory isn't that great, but three years ago, the first album came out... so many things have happened since then. perhaps some things were meant to happen, perhaps some weren't. yet the songs still make me wistful for those long-gone days. they still make me feel like what i've done in the past three years was worth it. that a lot of things i do are worth the effort. that there are still great things to do ahead of me...

third time's the charm, i guess.

Thursday, October 02, 2008

the glass passenger

finally got it in the mail yesterday. way to call it a "pre-order," considering it came out on the 30th... post-order is more appropriate. anyway, i am listening to the album. in peace. do not disturb.

in other news:
- check out http://stepheniemeyer.com/ to hear the new paramore single decode which will be on the twilight soundtrack (out 11/4). you have no idea how excited i am for this movie... also rpattz performed @ whisky-a-go-go last night... it would be just my luck that i would miss that.
- i've noticed that people are searching for pictures of andrew mcmahon @ the light the night event. you can stop googling that, guys. i'm not posting them on here. wait a few weeks to check http://dearjackfoundation.buzznet.com. they will be there.
- katy perry put out a vid for hot and cold, one of my fave singles off of her album. see below.
Hot N Cold

dioyy

finally heard a does it offend you, yeah? song on the radio last night (i think it was loveline... as soon as the song was over i had to stop listening) called "dawn of the dead." their album is only $7.99 on itunes, so i think i'm going to have to get it. i've heard a lot of hype but never actually bothered to listen to le music...

also, the song "battle royale" samples a clip of the epic japanese movie by the same name. kind of awesome.

the resolution #42

idk guys. i think it finally hit me that i'm genuinely quite excited for the new jack's album. just got back from the costa mesa paramore/jack's show with the always lovely lili. new song called (the) resolution. post-show, we checked out the OC fair in all its glory. there was an incredible array of carnie food-- fried oreos, fried frog legs, fried twinkies, fried avocados, giant sandwiches, icees... i could go on for days (in fact, i'm tempted to go back just so i can sample everything, minus the frog legs). there was food EVERYWHERE. fantastic.

we had a funnel cake which was FREAKING FABULOUS. then i had a giant sausage sandwich thing, which lil/i took pictures of because i pretty much polished that thing off (tbh i wish it were polish sausage just so i could make a punny there. do u c wat i did there?). driving home-- ty for the 5N being all SRY2SAY WE ARE CLOSED. umm... what? who plans this ish? the least they could do is give detour directions.

my very last summer... after this, it's all srs bsns. o life, i will miss you when you're gone.

captain hammer threw a car at my head

i was introduced to this little gem while in line for comic-con at 4am on thursday...

[dr. horrible's sing-along blog]

apologies-- had to make it small so it would fit, width-wise, on the blog. if you want to see it in normal size, click here to stream or download it from itunes.

stop making plans, start making sense

i apologize for the lateness of this post: the academy is... has two new songs from their upcoming cd "fast times at barrington high" (out aug. 19th) posted on their myspace. GO LISTEN.

i'll admit, "about a girl" sounds far better live (and is more fun w/o the production-y sound they beckett's voice has going on the recorded version). i lovelovelove "summer hair forever young" even though it is a tad cliche... the youth group totes covered a song by a similar title (forever young) . but it's ok. i loved it the moment i heard it live @ warped in pomona and i have no qualms about expressing my love for it now.

as kmac and i discussed earlier-- for the naysayers who say the sound is too poppy: it's actually incredibly hard to write a really great pop song. ppl need to stop hating on things just because they're undeniably catchy. JUST GIVE IN TO THE POP. I MEAN JT DID IT AND LOOK AT HOW AWESOME HE IS. SEE ALSO: RIHANNA. ok? thx.

[THE ACADEMY IS...: Fast Times At Barrington High Preorder]

"or, if you don't care about quality, it's on our myspace, too." oh beckett, you cracks me up.

broken hearts tessellate tonight

thursday: day went according to plan.. spent too much money @ h&m but what can ya do... i needed those clothes, ok?
friday: eye appointment, work work work work, off to darker my love @ the echo with rob.
saturday & sunday: the dark night @ arclight + dinner w/ irene & then the movie again the following morning @ landmark. yayyyyyyyy pretty epic.

after hearing a ton about tokyo police club from my friends (but never getting around to checking them out-- i know, i'm lazy), i heard something on the radio that i immediately fell in love with... even though i couldn't quite figure out what the lyrics meant. i jot down the lyrics (does anyone else do this?), come home, google, voila... it's tokyo police club's song "tessellate" that i keep hearing.

upcoming TPC shows in socal:
Jul 24 2008 Hammer Museum
Sep 18 2008 Henry Fonda Theatre
Sep 19 2008 Glass House (Pomona)

living the good life

this week:
monday (07/14): steel panther (formerly known as metal skool) @ key club w/ g.e.k.
tuesday (07/15): shwayze @ roxy w/ idk.. xtine?

wednesday (07/16): the monolators @ the echo.
thursday (07/17): tentatively- shopping in the AM, daily grill for HH with the sibling.
friday (07/18): : nooooo idea. ill sleep when i'm dead.

check out the trailer for shwayze's reality show buzzin' on mtv.

it's a beautiful day (don't let it get away)

what a whirlwind of a weekend.

thursday: the day (pre-flight cancellation debacle) began quite normally. (see previous post) after getting to the airport in ATL, we depart as scheduled... unfortch, as we get closer to phoenix, apparently there is some giant storm hovering right over the airport, so we're forced to circle from 30-45 mins (if the storm didn't pass by then, we were to be diverted to tuscon. TUSCON. WTH.). after circling, we land in phoenix, only about 20 minutes delayed... and thus begins the insanity. my flight to la was supposed to get in at 11pm. BUT since many of the other planes had been diverted to tuscon, all of the crew (pilot, flight attendants, etc.) were. still. in. tuscon. and not. in. phoenix. we had to wait for them to get to phoenix before we could even begin to board the aircraft.

after a billion delays, we finally attempt to make it into the plane around 1am... sadly, we missed our chance and our flight was cancelled. CANCELLED. i've never had a cancelled flight in my entire life, even with all the plane-hopping that occurred in 2006. i was freaked out and tired, and had to cancel my dentist's appointment at 8:30am. my sister was a dear during the whole ordeal and communicated my frantic status updates to my mother, who was picking me up from lax. managed to get a flight into burbank departing at 7:30am (other ppl were told the earliest flight back to la was 3pm, or even 7pm. *shudders*).

anyhow. i did spend the night at the airport. yes, it was uncomf and i hope i never have to do that again. thankfully i had no checked luggage so i was toting around my facewash and toothbrush/paste and all other essentials. as i'm dozing, i get an automated message from us airways telling me that my burbank flight is cancelled. WHAT THE HALE, right? panicking, i call back immediately and am lucky enough to get a seat on the earliest flight back to la... same departure/arrival time. no idea what was going on there, but when i got on that AM flight... i had never EVER been so thankful to be on a plane in my entire life. i passed out as soon as the plane took off.

friday: was a blur. i came home, napped for 2 hrs, went to work for a bit. went over to e's and helped finish cutting the krispie treats for the boys in the graduate. speed over to the troub but the show was sold out! sad... we grab the krispies and hand them off to the band as they load out. they are such sweethearts and their management thought we were 12. max mentioned they had recorded a few songs while they were in chicago the past few days. said goodbye, headed back to the car. awkward fangirl moment on the corner! e won't let me live it down. off to the key club to see my lil bro rob's band, ddl roundhouse in the emergenza fest. had drinks, ate dinner. i'll add some photos later to this post, if poss. home, discussed going to the grad show in SD @ soma w/ alee, and then sleep.

saturday: worked early morning. home. napped 3 hrs. on a total whim - i buy a ticket to the grad's show and start driving down to SD around 4pm to meet up with alee. make it in by 6:30pm. get to soma. hang outside for awhile, head in for the graduate, run into max who is looking for the rest of his band members. desperately hoping i do not run into [redacted] since friday night was hilar awk. some tech difficulties, they talked about a new vinyl version of anhedonia that they are recording... incl. new version of the formula & trans rave version of interlude. they played interlude that night and it was FREAKING AWESOME. no water during the formula. boo... watched MAH's set, then got ready to head out. we took up the h20 issue with [redacted]-- apparently sound guys don't like it when water is involved (clean-up and equipment ish)... also apparently they once tried to use glitter but then they ~*dazzled*~ for days cos they couldn't get it off. at this point i was snorting with laughter. +10 for alee's twilight reference. "we've met before.. .several times." "how many times have you guys met?!" "a couple? idk idk."

and then headed to in&out and then home. 20 minute traffic jam at 1:00am on the way home on the 405N... ick.

sunday: i've never wanted to sleep so badly in my entire life. and sleep, i shall.

Saturday, July 12, 2008

that's what you get for waking up in vegas

short recap before i shower & get into bed for some much-needed slumber.

monday: after our aquarium adventure, s, j, and i went to fat matt's rib shack, where i ordered a half-rack of ribs, baked beans, potato salad, and a soda. SOOOO YUM. the ribs were perfectly smothered in bbq sauce and the meat literally slides off the bone. i ate myself into oblivion there.

tuesday: hung out with adrienne and her dogs for awhile, then headed over to eclipse di luna for tapas. ate everything in sight (steak skewers, moz & tomato, potatoes, calamari, ribs, etc, etc.). so full, went shopping with s afterwards and bought some things on sale.

wednesday: warped tour atl (#3 this year). tinsley comes by to pick me up, we go to the scariest subway everrr just to get adam his sandwich. free parking, wandering around, trying to find adam and the guest list.... did end up getting in and figuring out the guest list location later (though that wasn't without its own challenges, i.e. venue workers being sadly misinformed and stupid). after a rather fruitless search for jac vanek, wait in line to talk to errrm someone. awkward pantomiming conversations. genius (not really). finally got my glamour kills 11:11AM tee... so excited. look for photos later. didn't end up watching any bands except jack's. tense backstage moments with ryan key (showdown: who will get on stage first). elbowing danny audition during jack's set (oops). extended stage time. saying goodbyes.

ETA: i forgot all about waffle house! omg i had smothered hash browns. omgomgomgomg gluttony.

thursday: little did i know, this would be the longest day EVER. wake up for brunch at the flying biscuit cafe where i (again- surprise!) nearly ate myself to death. i had the egg-spectacular or egg-stravaganza (my memory fails) which consisted of eggs, potatoes, biscuit, 3 pieces of delish bacon, 1 sausage patty, whole wheat french toast & raspberry stuff drizzled on top). coke museum (breather). i hate animals especially when they touch you and you tell them you don't like them. dessert at chocolate pink cafe- key lime pie and chocolate cake. "i need to finish my coffee."

actually, i think my ridiculous flight home deserves its own entry. plus i'm tired. xo

ps. i believe s's roommate, b, was looking for her five seconds of internet fame. there you go ;)

it's not what good girls do

hay guise--

my flight was delayed a few hrs while i had a stop over in charlotte, nc. then had a ridiculous conversation involving my friend j, who was like "you'll never believe where i am" v. "you'll never believe where i am." pretty sure we both have a moment of disbelief. fortunately, i made it into the ATL by 8pm ish, was on my merry way in s's car by 9pm (it was still light out! marvelous, i tell ya).

last night we went to eat at a tapas place called twist! (the exclamation point is part of the name, not necessarily attributed to my exuberance, as i was pretty tired from traveling all day). pretty cute, i forget how small portions are haha. but got to eat a bunch of different things, even tried 3 desserts/// went to sleep feeling pretty full but appar, i realized this morning that i hadn't eaten enough (i know i'm really hungry when i feel sick to my stomach :( i do realize the irony in that.. um.. if there is any).

anyhow, am excited for warped tour which involves seeing peeps, catching bands that i didn't in the previous two, and generally avoiding embarassing myself. the weather here has actually been a lot nicer than usual. heard a t-storm last night and couldn't sleep (also attributable to the time change- coast to coast is always a pain in the rear bumper).

we're heading out to the georgia aquarium today, methinks. going to try to take lots of fun photos, perhaps by the end of the next decade i'll have them posted ;)

when it all comes crashing...

sunday was warped ventura @ seaside park-- so gorgeous there. the breeze from the ocean is a bit deceptive though, b/c the sun is still out--> still could sunburn. nonetheless, it is still one of the best venues for warped i've been to.caught a bunch of bands:
- cobra starship - o, how i've missed your dancing, gabe.
- treaty of paris - again!
- katy perry - SO WORTH THE HYPE
- forever the sickest kids
- angels and airwaves
- the academy is... * awkward story to follow
missed the color fred (again) and the audition (again).

* so it was getting cold & breezy in ventura once the sun started setting. so i pull out my TAI hoodie and wear it. of course, as i'm walking, i pass by carden. ok. that was fine.

so, not expecting (fine, i was expecting it-- but only a small probability) that adam would be kind of enough to get us over to side stage to TAI... we get through, we're 20 minutes early... um yea basically 20 minutes of chagrin since i basically have violated the first rule of fandom: never wear band's merch at said band's show. double negative scene points if you're within speaking distance. yeaaaaaaa that was hilariously awkward, thanks to sisky coming up to adam and talking to him (insert image of me standing awkwardly with my backpack on, attempting to cover up the logo on the left side of my chest with my hand). then willbex coming up to adam (sometimes i wish adam weren't so tall, he's like a beacon). (1) i looked like i was fangirling though it was mostly just me being REALLY cold, and (2) me doing the awkward wave (william: hi; mao: ...hi). basically i had shame written all over my face. sigh. on the bright side, adam embarassed himself (not difficult, i know) and i got to hear the 2 new songs again.

yes, worst story ever. i'm sorry i wasted 5 minutes of your life that you will never get back. moving on...

tuesday night @ spaceland was sooo much fun. got to catch up with ashley & paul. seems everyone has been buried under work lately! the monolators and sunny day sets fire rockeddd and i can't wait to see them again.

Saturday, June 21, 2008

this is why we can't have nice things

TUESDAY NIGHT @ SPACELAND:
Sunny Day Sets Fire, The Monolators, In Waves, Line & Circle @ Spaceland $8
sunny day sets fire's only playing three shows before going back to the UK... go see them obvi & and my bb rockinsider plays bass for the monolators. cya thereeee

Tues June 24 at Spaceland
$8 21 Yrs +
88.9 KXLU welcomes
12 - Line and Circle
11 - In Waves
10 - Sunny Day Sets Fire
9 - The Monolators
1717 N Silverlake Blvd

warped pomona was deathly hot. tbh, i drank at least a gallon of water and sweated it out... all day. you can see what i'm implying here. i never went to the bathroom, bbs. how ODD. treaty of paris was lovely as always, and the academy is played new songs (don't explain... why? ty billiam for the consistent and amazing lulz). the new songs were epicccc loved them already. anyway, working at the 11:11 A.M. tent was fantastizzle so everyone should stop by at their date and buy yourself some pretty things! we have new pin designs. proceeds will be going to pediatric cancer research foundation. the uber popular uber sold out glamour kills 11:11am charity tee will be in at the tent in a few weeks. ty for teh support!

also please feel free to harass adam on any of the first 1/2 of the dates. warped ventura tomorrow... a reunion of sorts. see you bbs there.

hello my crispy pork rinds

hope everyone has been well in this blog-o-sphere of mine. haven't been to any shows lately but hopefully that'll change soon. trying to revisit some music i got in the past couple of months. otherwise, life is good. trying to keep it low key until i manage to save some money. also i'm sending out an SOS to e because i miss her bunches!

decided i'm catching up on the hills but i've already finished the first season, so i'm pretty much 1/3 done, amirite? rather unsatisfying... i need to stop freaking out and getting annoyed at unreality shows.

omg this video takes me back so farrrrr. thx alee.

[mandy moore - cry] plz excuse the poor audio quality.

respekt can do no wrong... absolutely beautiful.

golly sandra, you've grown up really crazy

long time, no update!

have been enjoying the beginning of summer break. can only hope that i can manage to save some amount of money so i can do a bit of traveling during my last summer vacation ever, or as they say in spanish, mi vacacion de.. okay that doesn't work. i just really wanted to use the word "ultimo" but i'm afraid that was a FAIL.

last wed, saw the yoshida brothers @ the el rey with my parents. this is srs guise. if you think guitar solos are impressive... to call a shamisen solo "impressive" would be an understatement. it was ridic freaking incredible. so much fun, gorgeous lighting, they brought out a dj and also a drummer. it was megauberincreíblespectacular. my dad made fun of me for showing a sudden interest in (my) culture... but whatev. music is music. [you may recognize their song as the one in the nintendo wii ads]

last thurs, saw eisley (for the first time, i might add) with irene and bn, both of whom i probably haven't seen in months, if not 1/2 a year. i really liked the show, it was difficult for me as i didn't own either of their cds prior to seeing them (but promptly bought 2 as the show went on)... but it was still fantastic and i really love their voices together. the crowd was pretty sedate which was helpful... somehow i don't see "moshing" and "eisley" going together. but to each their own.

excited for summer. hopefully hitting up at least one of the noy/the graduate shows. then a few dates of warped tour (in style, of course). what's this i hear about my youth slipping away? good. i'm pretty sure it was just a rumor.

now i really should get back to what i was working on, and stop procrastinating. i'll try to get some more photos up by the end of the month. no promises though. oh, and i've finished all the twilight books, if anyone wants to discuss. haha

xo

smile for the paparazzi

lol @ the two links below. srsly.
e! online - Miley Cyrus' Half Brother Scares Us a Little
tmz.com - Miley's Bro: No One Knows Him, He Knows Nothin'

for the record, i'd never heard of hannah montana till recently. and am i the only one that doesn't think she's cute at all with her brown hair? boring. at least when she's blonde w/ bangs, she looks a little... shinier. anyway, according to alee, the only people that don't know metro station are either not 12, or not scene. get with it, stalkarazzi sites! yes, we are a small, insular, arrogant, and self-obsessed community. get over it.

anyway. i learned how to vidchat yesterday so that is the latest on that front. i'm excited for summer.

the video below is so simple, yet touching. you can't watch it without smiling to yourself. unless you like, despise puppies. and hate penguins.

[marie digby - paint me in your sunshine]

so, funny story, i knew her back in the day (we went to saturday school together). and, about 7-8 years later, i was at molly malone's for the world's smallest onerepublic show back in 2006. and she recognized me so she came up to me. RANDOM. she looked familiar but i was impressed by her memory... and look where she is now. jealous. also i may be biased, since she does an supercute cover of umbrella (haha lovelovelove).

she's playing deep rock live (appar that thing that was on quarterlife?) 5/18 so you can check out her myspace to claim your free tix for that. she'll be on tour soon, 6/20 at the el rey.

wahwahwahhh i know, the whining never stops. so deal.

this summer will be my last proper summer vacay. evs. next summer, i graduate (well.. hopefully), study for le bar, pass le bar (well.. hopefully). maybe travel (i've never been to europe- how uncultured am i?). then i get to work for the rest of my life, like you normal folk. ah, the life of a student. or an academic. whatev.

so much to do. i mean, even after i finish this sem. there's too little time in this world to accomplish all the things i make lists for. also need to save monies and see friends. see shows. disneyland. haircut. photos. i think surrounding yourself w/ positive energy is important, even though that might seem contradictory w/ all the things i complain about. but that's what i do. complain, dispel, i feel better. repeat process as necessary. (the fact that other people don't feel as good, hearing my complaints, is irrelevant haHA)

if you like LOST, read my friend's blog: http://4815162342obsessed.blogspot.com/ the url pretty much says it all.

it's incredibly nice out here (rather warm, really). i don't feel as bad about not going to coachella since a) that's impossible; b) i'd probably have a heat stroke of some sort; c) i'll probably start hallucinating (non-substance induced, please) my outlines again. good times.

summer awaits.

pretty. odd. album preview.

hmmmmmmm. i like what i'm hearing so far.

lazy tuesday

yea, i really need to snap out of S.B. mode (i.e. wake up before 11 am) because i have tons of work to get done over break. oh well... baby steps.

last thurs, i kicked off my break w/ a show @ the el rey.. the outline's triumphant return (with a drummer!) since august 2007. made fun of shady weirdo trying to sell his ticket to the kid behind me; attempted to assess the crowd (a lot of japan-o-philes i think); made fun of jesus; made a few eggo-preggo jokes. inside, met up with the sd crew whom we hadn't seen in a month. we left mid-set of the first of two japanese bands (who sounded pretty awesome, i just wish i remembered whether they were the pillows or noodles), went to swingers on beverly, people watched.. i had a breakfast burrito YUM. the outline is playing @ the echo on 4/2 so i'll be there.

won 3 dollars in vegas playing wheel of fortune. hellyes.

going out tonight!!

great northern contest + updates en mi vida

in celebration of great northern's release of sleepy eepee on march 18, 2008, i'm having a contest up in this hizz-y. one lucky reader will get a signed CD and tshirt! holla.
all da deets:
(1) shoot me an email. address: emokidsbff(at)gmail(dot)com.
(2) subject: "great northern contest."
(3) send in yr full name & address in the body of the email.
deadline: 3/18. that's in 10 days, yall. US residents only!

great northern is touring with the gutter twins thru march.. 4/2 is when they play LA @ the avalon, so get yr tix soon. i believe i saw them last time @ the echoplex; they're such a great lil LA band. HEART.

as far as updates go... here are some random things i've been reading:

- stuff white people like. for anyone who is white (i suppose a majority of you will be)... or anyone who strongly identifies with "white" culture (oh, you know, like me). if you don't have a sense of humor, don't even go there. yes, i know race is a social construct. it doesn't make the blog any less funny.

- the FAIL blog. because there's nothing i enjoy more than watching others fail.

- livejournals: (1) elyse sewell (arguably the smartest, funniest, most caustic ANTM contestant-- love reading about her adventures in modeldom in asian countries.. lots and lots of photos of delish food, and fantastic commentary), and (2) audrey kawasaki (i knew her in elementary school, always an amazing artist-- it's so lovely to see that someone has actually followed their dreams and excelled at making art. absolutely amazing... i hope to go to a show of hers someday).

- buzznet: i guess the scene queen factions have shifted yet again. (see here, here, here, and here) i know, i should get a life, but really, who has time for one?

i'm in ur livejournal.. creepin ur friends!
