i don't sleep much anymore, and i'm so tired all the time

wahwahwahhh i know, the whining never stops. so deal.

this summer will be my last proper summer vacay. evs. next summer, i graduate (well.. hopefully), study for le bar, pass le bar (well.. hopefully). maybe travel (i've never been to europe- how uncultured am i?). then i get to work for the rest of my life, like you normal folk. ah, the life of a student. or an academic. whatev.

so much to do. i mean, even after i finish this sem. there's too little time in this world to accomplish all the things i make lists for. also need to save monies and see friends. see shows. disneyland. haircut. photos. i think surrounding yourself w/ positive energy is important, even though that might seem contradictory w/ all the things i complain about. but that's what i do. complain, dispel, i feel better. repeat process as necessary. (the fact that other people don't feel as good, hearing my complaints, is irrelevant haHA)

if you like LOST, read my friend's blog: http://4815162342obsessed.blogspot.com/ the url pretty much says it all.

it's incredibly nice out here (rather warm, really). i don't feel as bad about not going to coachella since a) that's impossible; b) i'd probably have a heat stroke of some sort; c) i'll probably start hallucinating (non-substance induced, please) my outlines again. good times.

summer awaits.

pretty. odd. album preview.

hmmmmmmm. i like what i'm hearing so far.

lazy tuesday

yea, i really need to snap out of S.B. mode (i.e. wake up before 11 am) because i have tons of work to get done over break. oh well... baby steps.

last thurs, i kicked off my break w/ a show @ the el rey.. the outline's triumphant return (with a drummer!) since august 2007. made fun of shady weirdo trying to sell his ticket to the kid behind me; attempted to assess the crowd (a lot of japan-o-philes i think); made fun of jesus; made a few eggo-preggo jokes. inside, met up with the sd crew whom we hadn't seen in a month. we left mid-set of the first of two japanese bands (who sounded pretty awesome, i just wish i remembered whether they were the pillows or noodles), went to swingers on beverly, people watched.. i had a breakfast burrito YUM. the outline is playing @ the echo on 4/2 so i'll be there.

won 3 dollars in vegas playing wheel of fortune. hellyes.

going out tonight!!

great northern contest + updates en mi vida

in celebration of great northern's release of sleepy eepee on march 18, 2008, i'm having a contest up in this hizz-y. one lucky reader will get a signed CD and tshirt! holla.
all da deets:
(1) shoot me an email. address: emokidsbff(at)gmail(dot)com.
(2) subject: "great northern contest."
(3) send in yr full name & address in the body of the email.
deadline: 3/18. that's in 10 days, yall. US residents only!

great northern is touring with the gutter twins thru march.. 4/2 is when they play LA @ the avalon, so get yr tix soon. i believe i saw them last time @ the echoplex; they're such a great lil LA band. HEART.

as far as updates go... here are some random things i've been reading:

- stuff white people like. for anyone who is white (i suppose a majority of you will be)... or anyone who strongly identifies with "white" culture (oh, you know, like me). if you don't have a sense of humor, don't even go there. yes, i know race is a social construct. it doesn't make the blog any less funny.

- the FAIL blog. because there's nothing i enjoy more than watching others fail.

- livejournals: (1) elyse sewell (arguably the smartest, funniest, most caustic ANTM contestant-- love reading about her adventures in modeldom in asian countries.. lots and lots of photos of delish food, and fantastic commentary), and (2) audrey kawasaki (i knew her in elementary school, always an amazing artist-- it's so lovely to see that someone has actually followed their dreams and excelled at making art. absolutely amazing... i hope to go to a show of hers someday).

- buzznet: i guess the scene queen factions have shifted yet again. (see here, here, here, and here) i know, i should get a life, but really, who has time for one?

i'm in ur livejournal.. creepin ur friends!

i don't know what i knew before

so, slight change of plans for wed. i do heart get back loretta but the iffy-ness of whether club moscow will manage to run on time (combined with my extreme fear of tween-hipsters) does not mesh well with my schedule. SO. instead, totally stoked to go to see from first to last again @ hob sunset on the take action tour!

life has been busy busy busy. those of you who talk to me IRL - i have not had a free weekend in about 2 weeks. and for the next 2-3 weeks i project that i still will not have any free weekends. then spring break. then return. then finals?(!) oh dear. one day at a time. taking over el mundo takes a lot of work.

also i totally cannot get the feist song out of my head.

that's why catholic schools use nuns as teachers and not priests

i don't care which democratic candidate you voted for in the primaries.. but this is hilar and so true (regarding the double standard of a man being considered "assertive" while the same quality in a woman automatically labels her a b-word). tina fey @ her finest.

i'm willing to break myself, to shake this hell from everything i touch

and now i'm static
as your sky is turning purple and gray
i'm learning that the further that i crawl
the farther that i fall, is that ok?

break myself from the soco album north was not one of my favorite songs when the album came out. i tended to skip over the non-hypercatchy songs and go for songs like space and 21 and invincible. but more and more, i feel like this song is probably the best song on the album (if not w/in the top 3 best songs). it has become my anthem, one that i can sing inside my head and feel energized. motivated. like i should be ready to conquer the world.

i remember reading that andrew said north was a very tense album. it was written in a short period of time, and you can FEEL it in the song. you can feel the desperation, the frustration, the hopelessness of it all.. and then he breaks into the chorus and you feel like you can overcome whatever it is that's holding you back. but it also points out the danger of being so passionate... though i would argue that perhaps we need to be more dangerous, that maybe we need have more passion when we take action.

and breathing is a foreign task

yet another reason why i love my friends.

Andrew: did you know, the tortoise takes only 4 to 5 long, deep breaths per minute, and lives to over 100 years old.

on the other hand, the quick-breathing rat lives only 2 to 3 years.

so let's take a lesson from the tortoise, and focus on our breathing with a nice long belly breath. and by the way, you were born breathing this way - before you ever knew what stress was.
** the preceding was a quote from the "breathing" section of my weird new-agey relaxation CD**
